Working from home and home renting

Nowadays, 60% of professions can be carried out with just a computer and a telephone. Does this apply to you? In that case, maybe you could consider working from home. Many companies encourage this form of working, especially tech companies.

However, it is not just people employed in the new technologies who have the chance to work from home or at home, depending on how you look at it. Many liberal professions also offer this option. A journalist can work from home on an article that will appear in the press the next morning and a clinical psychologist can give their patients therapy at home.

While not yet in the majority, the number of people working from or at home in Spain is gradually increasing year by year. In 2018, Spanish workers working from home, either continuously or occasionally, accounted for 7.4% of the labour force, with the bulk being public employees and the self-employed.

As a result, many homes in our country have been adapted to this double function as homes and places of work. This is also the case for rented properties.

How to adapt a rental property for working from home

Everything depends on the available space. Some properties have a room that can be converted into an office, healthcare practice, workshop, etc. The best option in smaller homes is usually to create a work space in the living room or bedroom.
As a result, multi-functional spaces are becoming increasingly common in many households. But what should we bear in mind when creating these? The following four factors should be taken into consideration to achieve a practical work space that enhances your efficiency and productivity:

  • Choose flexible furniture so you can work comfortably and maintain your activity and concentration for longer.
  • Maximise space by using the walls. Personalise shelving by using various kinds of storage space. Use labels, they save time when looking for things and time is money, especially when it comes to work.
  • Ensure appropriate lighting. This favours concentration and prevents damage to your eyesight. Natural light is best, but if this is not possible choose lighting similar to sunlight (at least 5,000K).
  • Pick intelligent accessories that make working easier and save space. An example of these are objects which have a double function.

So, if you are looking to rent a property that meets all the conditions for being the perfect multi-functional space, that is a home and at the same time an ideal space for working from home, be sure to look at the wide range of properties we have available for you.
